IMMERSIVE ART EXPERIENCES

Concept illustration of Les Mayers' Dragon's Journey immersive art event at the Staples Center Plaza.
Immersive Art Experiences are an emerging form of presenting art that surrounds and involves the audience in a multi-sensory environment. They can be experienced virtually online, or in-person, at custom-designed event venues.

While viewers of traditional art exhibits passively observe the artworks,
Immersive art experiences are designed to provide a holistic and captivating environment to help viewers feel as though they're part of the artwork itself.  These interactive and engaging
experiences combine the art with various other elements such as staged sets, lighting, sound systems, advanced presentation technologies, and may even include the application of scent and touch.

One of many event concept illustrations by Les Mayers to help visualize an Immersive Art Experience that is currently in development.

Immersive Art Experiences might include:

Interactivity

Audiences are encouraged to engage with the art, often through touch, movement, or digital interfaces.

Multi-Sensory Engagement

Uses a combination of visuals, sounds, lighting, and other sensory elements to create a full-bodied experience.

Spatial Involvement

Art is often spread out in a way that requires viewers to move through different spaces, creating a sense of exploration and discovery.

Technology Integration

Frequently incorporate advanced technologies such as VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), projection mapping, and interactive installations.

Themes and Narration

Often tells a story or explores a theme in a way that immerses the viewer in a specific world or scenario.
